Gemini Man

I headed straight back to the cinema, the first chance I got to see Gemini Man . My expectations for this one were not too high but it is easy to see why Will Smith is a well paid actor.  He brings quite a bit to the characters he portrays, and ultimately creates.  The computer graphics of young Will Smith is a bit frightening - with this technology, and a big enough budget, anyone can be convincingly be portrayed doing anything at all. After a brief consideration of the movie poster, there is not much to surprise the viewer, but a tight production nonetheless.

Joker

Last Friday, I took a Friday afternoon to watch Joker . Before seeing this dystopian film, I had heard that a lot of people were disappointed with this movie. I was quite impressed with the movie.  Were it may have fell short for the unimpressed viewers, may have been the departure from the comic hero format which has dominated the box office of late. I found the dedication of Joaquin Phoenix, along with precise cinematography and a story line that aptly unfolds toward the creation of Bruce Wayne's truly troubled, and lethal adversary. A further departure is that if director, Todd Phillips, from buddy comedy movie to this bit of artistic character development.

Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood

A few weeks ago, the wife had the little son, and I had the bigger one.  I took him to a kids' playroom and dropped him off, ditched him, really, and went upstairs to the cinema to catch Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood .  Although the film is quite slow and languid, it is multi-faceted - the slower parts of the film have a pay off.  Also, the balance between fact and fiction is a fresh approach.  I particularly like an altercation with Bruce Lee as a piece of exposition of how well a character of the film can fight.  I also enjoyed the lack of direct reference to the original crime which makes the view sort through the events of the film, in order to understand.
